Many manufacturers are now producing coloring supplies because Adult Coloring Books have gained a significant market share. None of the new colored pencils have been released yet that I can recommend.
Before you buy colored pencils, here are some things to consider
- Are the core colors consistent with the pencils' outsides?
- Are they centered in the wood? It is impossible to properly sharpen them if they are not, and they will eventually break.
- Are the color numbers or names of the colored pencils?
- Is the number of colors listed on the label correctly? Or are there duplicates?
Crayola Colored Pencils are simple and can give good results. However, you will need to work harder to get the color on the paper.
For those genuinely obsessed with adult coloring books, colored pencils are their most popular item. This is the correct list for you if you think this sounds like someone you know.
You will need to decide whether you want markers or pencils. If pencils are the answer, you need to determine your budget and purchase the best line of pencils with the most prominent color selection.
You will be frustrated if you buy a smaller set. It's better to wait and order the complete set.
Faber-Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils. These pencils aren't the most expensive, but they are very close to the top. These pencils are smooth and creamy and blend easily. They can also be used to layer forever.
You will get stunning results with patience and practice if you're new to this art. The largest tin contains 120 vibrant colors, three metallic pencils, and the most expensive.
Lyra Rembrandt Colored Pencils
We have one complaint: 72 pencils are the full-size box. These are the Polycromos. They are soft and luminous and have a different look than the Polycromos.
Caran d'Ache Colored Pencils
Each pencil is kept in its own foam box. My 20-piece set has been a great success. The white pencil is perfect for special effects and highlights.
Caran d'ache has many colored pencils. These include the top-rated artist and student varieties. The watercolor and student pencils don't get as much attention as adult coloring books. The Luminance pencils have the best lightfast rating.
They won't fade like other oil-based pencils. They are full of pigment and easy to use; they are simply stunning.
Marco Raffine Colored Pencils
The Marco Raffine, a Japanese wax-based colored pencil, is the least expensive and performs as well as its oil-based counterparts.
These Bruynzeel Colored Pencils are beautiful but are only available in high-end fine-art stores. I have several to use for Enchanted forest.
Wax-Based Colored Pencils
These pencils are the go-to for many mixed media artists and art journaling lovers because they seal in color from any water-based art supplies and complete seal colors if you use beeswax or encaustic.
Premier Artist Pencils - These pencils are the most expensive and have the lowest price than the Marco Raffine pencils. These pencils are a big step up from Crayola and other schools/student-grade colored pencils.
If you like to layer colors, they will get a wax blossom. They aren't colorfast, so your colors may fade over time. I haven't had any problems with my sharpening, as they don't break or chip easily.
